Question: Describe about the Report for Operations Management of End-to-End Operation. Answer: Supply chain management deals with the end-to-end operation of every organization. Function of supply chain management starts from raw material purchasing and ends until the consumer purchase the finish goods. Supply chain management helps to understand the flow of goods and services from the point of origin to point of consumption through the process of raw material storage, manufacturing of finished goods and supply to the market. According to my knowledge this is a cross functional approach which helps to manage the movement of goods into the organization, manage several internal process that convert the raw material into finished goods and supply of the finished goods out of the organization. The importance of supply chain management in todays business is very significant because it helps to increase the competitive advantage. Every organization is putting lot of effort to increase the profitability of the organization, which is also important for a sustainable business. Few year s back the term Supply Chain Management was in the creation era however, benefit of this practice has helped to convert it into a specialization era. In the beginning of the supply chain history most of the companies was adopting supply chain management to improve the productivity of the organization. However, in recent time, it has become a service and many companies are consulting supply chain management to others to improve end number of functions within the organization. Supply chain management is therefore helping to improve the productivity, Profitability, utilization of resources and time management. It solely deals with the operational process and makes necessary changes within the organization structure and function. Supply chain management not only helps the organization to improve their operational activity and profitability, but it also helps to generate the employment opportunity in the marketplace. In order to implement a proper and effective supply chain, the companies need to recruit a supply chain control team, which generate the employment opportunity for many people. Along with the business progress, the evolution of supply chain management is also happening very fast. In the beginning of the supply chain management only operation was involved. However, companies like Dell, Proctor Gamble, Unilever and Toyota consider supply chain management as their key success factor. Therefore initiating my career in this specialty will provide lot of options in the future. Career in supply chain management will provide me lot of functional areas such as planning, operations, forecasting, fulfillment, purchasing, storage and distribution, logistics and customer services. The general skills like lead ership, communication and negotiation of a management professional is not enough to get a supply chain management job rather I have to enhance competency and knowledge in distribution strategies, planning and procurement, risk management, lead time management and logistics. I think that career in supply chain management is very interesting because it deals with various aspects of the business function and diversified knowledge is required to handle each situation. The basic function of the supply chain management is associated with the increased productivity that will help to enhance the competitive advantage in the market. Therefore, when I will be working as supply chain professional then I have to work with several other functional areas to enhance their performance. My objective will be to improve the operation of the organization by reducing the cost and increasing the resource utilization. The most important part of the job is to increase the productivity of the organization w here profitability, productivity and cost of operation will play an important role. Being a supply chain manager my job is to plan and monitor the movement of goods starting from raw material procurement, manufacturing of goods, inventory management along with warehousing and distribution of the goods to the market. The monitoring process of the supply chain manager will not end in the market until customer is purchasing the goods. Sales of the product from the market are also important for supply chain management because it deals with the sales data for forecasting. Supply chain manager will evaluate the current sales data and according to that forecast will be assumed. If the assumption of the sales forecast is different from the current sales then those process needs modification. Suppose if the future requirement is higher than today then being a supply chain manager my job will be to increase the raw material. To coordinate with the increased procurement manufacturing will be faster and more number of logistics will be required to send the goods in the market. Proper planning of operation in such scenario will help to utilize the resources optimally. Thus, the study of supply chain management is helpful for me as it provides the knowledge of proper planning, organizing and controlling of business operation, which will help me to perform better in an organization in future.
